Hi Sal, Another video states that a steam shower requires the use of epoxy grout, I don't think that is right. Could you comment, please. Thanks
Hey Sal, I've seen guys simply use the blue board drywall in shower/tub areas then cover the walls and floor with the Kerdi membrane and Kerdi band. They do everything the same just minus the Kerdi board; covering the walls and floor with the membrane same as you're doing in this video. I understand the concept, if the membrane stops the water then why would it matter what the substrate is? What are your thoughts on this? Thanks, Brian
can u install kerdi membrane over kerdi board?
Some very subtle tricks of the trade here people! No text book is gonna learn ya some of this stuff.
fapped to this like 12 times
HI Sal – your videos are great and so helpful. I am planning a steam shower reno in a bathroom, and wondering about slip joints. Are slip joints something you need to incorporate in a home steam shower that will be used at most a few times a week? Thanks for any advice!
Regarding not being able to use a liquid membrane….I'm getting ready to put in a steam shower in my own house. According to their specs Mapei's Aquadefense (liquid) has a perm rating of <.5. Going to put it over Durock.
If this was a customers house I would be a little hesitant. But since I know it wont be seeing steam for more than 10-20 minutes at a time I think I'm good. ?
Maestro DiBlasi on a Heated steam shower seat – Where do i place the temperature sensor? i will be using a Kerdi System …like you have in this video
Hey Sal can I set my durock board on top of the mud pan and tape it together and seal it with thinset. Then water proof? I'm building a steam shower but a lot of guys recommend leaving the cement board half inch above the mud pan but I'm worried about the steam going under and between the cement board cuz there's nothing stopping the steam only the tile I can maybe see how that would work with water but not a steam shower.
Hi Sal, do you have a preferred method that you use for polishing edges of porcelain tile like you did for the door "jambs" on the steam shower?
Sal what did you use to make your cuts for the wall tile? I am thinking about buying the Qep 35 tile cutter for my project but am worried it won’t be enough to cut the tile all the way through. 15×30 tile
What kind of grout should you use in a steam shower?
Great videos all of them that I have watched so far, I have learned so much. I am going to use the KERDI-LINE drain system. I was planing on using the plastic tapered goof proof sticks that you can imbed into the mud base to hold the pitch. However I have seen you constantly level the perimeter of the mud base first and it just clicked why you do that. I am assuming it is to keep the tiles at the same hight all the way around the stall. Is that correct is it for ascetic reasons or to make your life easier when it comes to tiling? The mud pitch is the part that makes me a little nerves that is why I was going to use the pitch sticks. Thanks for all the wonderful videos.
Which grout do you use in the steam shower?
Is it concrete board good for tiling on a steam shower?still needs to be waterproofed?
Thank you for the time you put into this video!
Sal…as you know, you are probably the best tile guy on YouTube.
Liquid membranes are acceptable for steam. HOWEVER YOU MUST USE THE FLEECE CONTINUOUSLY AND OVERLAP ETC. who would do this??schluter the only way to roll. But I do hate the price tag
Great video! You did an awesome job! How much did that shower alone cost? (Labor plus materials)
Hey, im thinking to do my bathroom very similar to this style… please could you tell me how much this would cost… roughly
Hi Sal, You are top of the line. Two questions-I want you to come redo my bathroom. Care to come to the mountains of CO? And, I want to learn how to be a certified tile installer. I find this work interesting. Where in CO do they accept apprentices? 970-409-0077
what unmodified thinset did you use?
Great work & so informative. Wondering why they give 2 templets for the drain? Why not 1 cut?
Sal, I noticed that the tile you installed on the ceiling was 12"x12" paper/membrane backed. I am doing a shower very similar to this, and was going to use 12"x24" tile on both the walls and ceiling. But after installing it on the main bathroom floor and having difficulty with lippage( didn't use the T-Locksystem) I am reluctant to install the 12"x24" on the ceiling, even though I have purchased the T-Lock system to do the shower walls and tub surround and was planning on using the T-Lock on the ceiling also. Are my fears justified and should I look into using the smaller tile( 12"x12"sheets or 12"x12" solid tile)?
Hey sal. Would you recommend against me just gluing stainless steel sheets (4'x8' sheets, cut to fit…not small sheets) over the shower and using silicon in the folds/overlaps? Would that work okay?I want to make a steam shower but I'm in a manufactured home and I don't feel confident that the home could handle the extra weight of a normal steam shower
what would estimate the material cost would be for this project?
Is there a video on grouting the river rock?
Very nice work, I have worked with most of the products and have done steam showers thank you for taking the time and in detail all your work and sharing great job and thank you with much respect to you.
hey salgreat vid!! seen a few baths done by DIY'ersthe kerdi had many bubbles.seen a few your vids and others.and no one really says how much pressure is used when setting membrane into thinset. think some think more is best , which i feel they are taking to much out.basically just taking out ridges no?
can you give me a wild ass guess on what the price is for a steam shower of this caliber?
It just seems like with all those seams on the floor that the likely hood of leaking is higher…
Sal where did you get the wire and the felt paper
excellent work you do fine high quality work two thumbs up
Hey Sal what is the height of the entrance curb if the mud is 2-1/2"….. thanks
Sal, question for you sir. I've had guys building a steam shower for 6 weeks at my house, they just finished. I'm reading the fine print on the grout bag, Polyblend Sanded Grout, it says wait 3 days before sealing it, and I know that did not happen. So what happens when grout is sealed too soon like mine was? Should I give it a second coat? They used Aqua Mix Sealer's Choice Gold. Took a couple days to grout so some had dried for 2 days, some about 24 hours or less.
Hi Sal, Will thinset for installing Kerdi membrane over mudpan smooth out any divots?
Thanks, Sal. I have a couple of spots on the mudpan that I made over a week ago, that are sandy, and I'm able to scrape the top away with my finger. I mixed the mud in a bucket with the bucket mortar mixer, and added the water as per instructions on the bag of Mapei 4:1. Why do you think this happened?
Sal, is the use of the caulk around the corner so it can flex with temperature / humidity changes or is it because its difficult to grout that area? Great videos as usual!
Hey Sal, do you have any videos showing how to prepare floors (and walls) which are not straight/level?
Sal, love your videos. How many days did the steam shower take to complete from start to finish? Thanks.
is this schluter kerdi fabric better than green waterproof mebrane? i mean does it saves time?
